Breonna Taylor

Today I sit here heart broken; I saw the verdict that did not directly indict any of the police officers involved in Breonna Taylor’s murder and, unfortunately, I’m not surprised. Black America has been prepared for this verdict since we gained insight of the incident, and although we are rightfully outraged we handle it with the inconsequential grace of a people long down-trodden. We never expected justice for Breonna Taylor because in so many instances justice is not served. Yes, her home was invaded by police on a no-knock warrant; yes she was at home sleeping in her bed; yes, her boyfriend responded to the intrusion from what he viewed as intruders with his legal fire arm; and yes she died as a result from this encounter with police. Furthermore, Breonna was not attended to or given medical care after she was shot and ultimately killed at the hands of police. Breonna Taylor was dealt a harsh injustice and there are many resulting questions.

I was talking to a friend today, and she mentioned one of the most poignant aspects of Breonna Taylor’s death, and as a mother I was compelled to agree with her. After Breonna Taylor was killed her mother was looking for her; searching for answers relating to what had happened to her child. She was given the run around. She was told that Breonna was at the hospital, which wasn’t true. Her daughter was in the morgue. I am a mother who lost a child; I have dealt with that immeasurable pain; I cant imagine what I would do if someone told me that my child was at the hospital and when I got there she wasn’t there…I genuinely don’t know what I would do.

To add insult to injury, her family won the civil suit, which means they were awarded a cash out settlement for Breonna’s death, yet no one is culpable in her death. Smells of a cover u to me. You mean to tell me that the civil suit found the circumstances worthy of a 12 million dollar settlement, yet no one is accountable… that sounds like B.S. We know that Breonna’s death was tragic and ill-fixed but we are slow to place accountability on the police officers directly involved. They saw that we demanded justice for Breonna Taylor and chose to strategically place the National Guard as a deterrent. We, the American people, want justice…Love to Breonna Taylor and her family in this difficult time.
