So, I’ve been loosely following the trial. Initially I didn’t feel the need to follow the trial because it was so clear cut, why bother spending energy following it. However it has come to my attention that the defense has tried to justify Rittenhous’ actions by pointing blame at his victims, which (in my opinion) is absolutely ridiculous. Furthermore, the defense asserts that Kyle was simply defending himself. To be clear on my stance; AT NO TIME SHOULD A CHILD BE PRESENT AT THE SCENE OF A POTENTIAL RIOT- ESPECIALLY UNSUPERVISED AND UNNECESSARILY- PARTICULARLY WHILE ARMED. His mother should be held accountable for Child Endangerment and Aiding in the Delinquency of a Minor. Furthermore, Kyle should be charged for Possession of a Dangerous Weapon by a Person Under 18 as well as be held accountable for the murders that he committed. He was filmed. He walked past the police with the weapon in his possession and was not immediately apprehended, which I view as a flagrant display of the problematic racial attitudes in the United States. To add further insult to injury, there is a clear attempt to create a narrative where Rittenhous is justified in his actions and possibly even a victim or a good guy defending himself in a difficult situation, which is not supported by a macroscopic view of his actions or the literal video evidence. Furthermore, the prosecution has completely blundered this case, which leads me to ponder if the mishandling was done with the purpose of creating a mistrial which would provide justification for a lack of prosecution. Although the unjustified killings of innocent black citizens has raised a bit of a stir which has generated some conversation, we still have a long way to go. It is imperative that U.S. citizens take a deep look at the justice system as well as within their own hearts and minds and address the mentalities and presumptions that can lead to such an egregious miscarriage of justice as the one that I suspect will occur in this case, and furthermore how and why one could find it acceptable in good conscious.
