So, millennials have been getting a lot of flack from the prior generations mainly stating that they are entitled, however let’s pause and ask ourselves if their requests are unwarranted. Most of the requests that I see from millennials are for basic respect and needs; affordable housing, healthcare, education, a realistic work-life balance, and respect regardless of the job/task that they perform in society. THESE ARE NOT UNREALISTIC REQUESTS!!! Viable members of society should be able to live within that society, and furthermore should have reasonable access to the comforts that that society can provide. A healthy governing system advances technology and acquires resources for the benefit of its citizens. If they are not using the technological advances and resources for the people should they have the right to access and control said resources? Every person born has an equal right to the earth; this concept of ownership and hoarding in perpetuity that allows some access to extreme amounts of resources for generations to come without any merit of their own while others struggle to fulfill basic needs regardless of their own effort and merit is trash. Millenials are bringing to light the fact that prior generations have been indoctrinated against their own best interest and the systems that they bought into, the pyramid that they have climbed is the instrument of their exploitation. It’s scary to realize that the system that one has placed faith in and structured their life around is intrinsically flawed, I get that, and likewise it is terrifying to consider that the things you feel entitled to and the esteem and attitudes developed based on the mastery of that system may have developed unhealthy thoughts and habits within, but on the other side of that realization is growth, development, healthy self-esteem, and a better world. We have the capacity to feed everyone, house everyone, make everyone healthy including mental health, and basically eradicate many of the privations that our ancestors suffered though. With all of these advancements, are we mature enough to change how we think so that we can create that utopia? Food for thought… To conclude, millennials are creating a new school of thought, and I am here for it!
